Lightning Protection Systems (LPS) I: Lightning Protection Standards for PV Systems

Jobson Modena is an electrical engineer, director of GUISMO Engenharia, a member of the Brazilian Electricity Committee (Cobei), CB-3 of ABNT, where he currently participates as coordinator of the commission reviewing the standard for protection against atmospheric discharges (ABNT NBR 5419) and Brazil's representative on IEC TC 81. He is director of Guismo Engenharia.

He holds a degree in Physics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (1985), a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1988), a doctorate in Telecommunications Engineering in the specialty of Photovoltaic Systems - Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (1993) and a Livre Docência in the specialty of Renewable Energies - University of São Paulo (2006). He is currently a full professor at the Energy and Environment Institute of the University of São Paulo, and a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Progress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications. He works in the field of electrical engineering, with an emphasis on photovoltaic systems, mainly on the following subjects: photovoltaic systems, rural electrification, home photovoltaic systems, photovoltaic pumping systems, distributed generation and grid-connected photovoltaic systems.

Master in Production Engineering (UFMG), Electrical Engineer (PUC-MG) and Electrical Technician (CEFET/MG). Engineering Manager at Termotécnica Para-Raios. Professor of Electrical Engineering subjects at the UNA University Center. Author of several articles presented at congresses and published in magazines. Member of the CE 03:64.10 committee that revised the ABNT NBR 5419 standard.

He holds a master's and doctorate in Electrical Engineering from EPUSP. He was director of the Power Division at the University of São Paulo's Institute of Energy and Environment from 2001 to 2011 and currently holds the position of substitute head of the Scientific Division of Energy Planning, Analysis and Development at the same Institute. He is currently secretary of EC 64.10 - Protection against atmospheric discharges, rapporteur of WG 11 (Protection of photovoltaic systems against atmospheric discharges) and Brazil's representative on IEC TC 81.

She has a degree in electrical engineering from Pitágoras College and a degree in electrical engineering and industrial automation from CEFET/MG. She has been part of Termotécnica's engineering team since 2008, working exclusively with SPDA, on projects, consultancies, lectures and courses. With extensive experience, she is currently Termotécnica's technical support coordinator, lecturer and course instructor.

Electrotechnician, civil engineer, post-graduate in Occupational Safety Engineering from Fumec/MG and engineering director of Termotécnica, he has been working since 1993 to train designers, surveyors and auditors of SPDA installations. He is an active member of the commission reviewing the ABNT NBR 5419 standard, a member of Abrasip/MG - Brazilian Association of Building Systems Engineering and technical director of ABRARAIO - Brazilian Association of Lightning Rod, Earthing and Protection Systems Companies.
